Behavior Modification

Your goal is to take responsibility for your own recovery. To help you accomplish this goal, these rules have been established, not to deter or distract you, but as goal-specific rules and regulations designed towards your recovery and continued abstinence. Failure to comply with these rules will result in circles or discharge, depending on the rule not followed. Obtaining 3 circles in a week period will prohibit you from obtaining weekend or day passes. Four or more circles will result in mandatory house restriction, which begins at 5 p.m. Friday and continues until curfew Sunday. This restriction will only permit residents to attend meetings, work, and church. Circles earned over the 4 that resulted in your House Restriction will be carried over into the next week. After 3 weekends of House Restriction, you will be phone restricted as well. Phone restriction lasts through the weekend until lights out Sunday. Behavior that continuously results in circles will be considered for discharge from the program. If motivation and commitment to recovery becomes an issue, the resident will be provided sufficient time to work on these issues through a behavioral contract. If the behavior does not change or worsens, the resident will be discharged.

Visitation

Residents must receive permission and approval from clinical staff for all their visitors, prior to setting up visitation. All visits must also be included on the residents Time-Use chart. Male visitors are only permitted if blood relatives. Any other male visitors are prohibited unless special approval is given by clinical staff. Visitation hours are 8am-10pm. It is the responsibility of the resident to log in and out all visitors to the facility on the visitor log. Visitors are expected to adhere to rules and regulations of the house. No visitors are permitted upstairs, with the exception of children. Visits must be therapeutically conducive to recovery. Visits with family and friends aren’t permitted more than 3x’s weekly. Children are permitted to stay for overnight and weekend visits with prior approval of clinical staff. All overnight children’s visits must be included on a children’s overnight pass sheet and turned into a clinical staff member 24 hours in advance of the visit. It is the responsibility of moms, not W House staff, to supervise children at all times.

Signing Out

All residents are responsible for signing in and out on the sheet provided in the common area. For the initial two-week period, each new resident is required to sign in every three (3) hours and do a face to face check in with staff. All residents signing out must record a specific destination. If a resident is going to be late, they must call before the fact. Residents are not permitted to go places they are not signed out for. This will be considered a breach of honesty that can result in consequences and loss of privileges as well as discharge from the program. Residents are not permitted to sign out for more than 5 hours unless working. Five hours or more out of the house is considered a day pass. If a resident remains out of the house for over 5 hours without permission, immediate discharge will result.

All residents are responsible for checking out verbally with staff before leaving the W House to go anywhere. If a staff member can not be located for whatever reason, residents are to place a note on their counselor’s office door or direct care office door. Residents are not permitted to leave the house for any reason (i.e. meetings, aftercare, work, and interviews) without staff permission.

Curfew

Curfew is as follows: Sunday through Thursday - 10:00p.m.; Friday and Saturday - 11:30p.m. The exception to curfew is those ladies attending the Friday night Candlelight meeting at Serenity, curfew is immediately following the 10:30-11:30 meeting (no later than midnight).Violations of curfew will result in discharge.

Responsibilities

Every resident must attend regularly scheduled Women’s Group, Parenting and Lifeskills Groups. Every resident will meet individually with her counselor for no less than 1 hour a week. Homework assignments given by the counselor that are not completed will result in circles.

Each resident is required to complete Work Therapy or Chores 2 x’s a week. Chores are to be completed Mondays and Thursdays. Refer to Chore chart for specifics. Residents are expected to complete upstairs chores by 10pm and downstairs chores by 11pm. Failure to complete chores at the appropriate times will result in circles or loss of privileges. For every day a chore is not complete, a circle will be given. The staff will conduct an inspection of the entire house on a random basis, at any given hour. Chores will be randomly checked on a daily basis.

All residents are responsible for keeping their own rooms clean and neat. All beds are to be made within 45 minutes of the time required to be up. Rooms are inspected randomly throughout the week; any room that is messy or dirty will result in a circle. A weekly room inspection is done on Thursdays by staff.

Upstairs bathrooms are the responsibility of the residents using them. Each resident using a particular bathroom will alternate cleaning on a weekly basis. Any personal items left unattended downstairs will be confiscated by staff. The item will be returned in exchange for a chore to be completed by the resident.

All residents are required to submit to the staff member on duty a Time Use Chart and Sponsor Log on Sunday night by 8:00 pm. All appointments or meetings that transportation is needed to are to be circled on your Time Use chart.

Residents may not have a personal vehicle for 60 days upon admission. After 60 days residents having a personal vehicle must provide proof of active driver’s license, insurance, and proof of ownership. The vehicle may only be used to go back and forth to work and visitation with children. Transportation to meetings, errands, and grocery store will be provided by W House or public transportation system. Exceptions to this rule are only at the clinical staff.
